What We Do

Ability Professional Training specialises in the training of employees in a selected range of management, care and assessor/verifier courses. Each year several hundred candidates attend programmes at Ability's venues in London, and Kent and at employer's premises across the south east of England.

Training is delivered in a professional adult study environment. Programmes are flexible and can be set up at any time customised to the needs of an organisation.

The team at Ability has delivered management and leadership development programmes for more than 16 years to a wide range of corporate clients and individuals attending open courses. We offer bespoke services which are tailored to make maximum use of blended learning opportunities. Candidates can call upon previous knowledge and personal examples of continuing professional development to enhance and reflect on individual development needs.

Ability provides opportunities for companies to gain professional accreditation of appropriate internal training programmes which can be used towards formal management qualifications. One example of this is our current relationship with Borough Council which makes use of blending specific Council generated competences with National Management Standards enabling individuals to further develop their skill base.

Ability is a large provider of Health & Social Care programmes accredited by City & Guilds and often funded by Train to Gain or ESF. These programmes are delivered at the employee's place of work at a convenient time which may require night time and weekend meetings. Ability's staff are frequently praised for the support given to candidates who may not have undertaken any formal training previously.

A typical approach to working with clients is to meet with key staff to discuss needs and set out a programme of learning opportunities. Quality assurance is agreed and a team assembled consisting of Ability Staff, nominated participants and client sponsors. Pre-programme assessment of participants can be set up and agreed which allows for action learning plans. Programmes are delivered and post evaluation is undertaken to test for learning. Where programmes are accredited leading to national qualifications, testing and personal reflection is ongoing with support provided by Ability staff. In addition, we also actively encourage clients to establish internal support mechanisms such as coaching and mentoring and provide a climate of continuing personal development.

Our standards are excellent and this can be verified by external audit and has in the past been acknowledged by our team winning national recognition for excellence. It is worth noting that in winning the award, the team was nominated for work carried out in the public sector and delivering bespoke programmes over a number of years. In addition support and a nomination was provided by Business Link Kent where we enjoyed a 10-year relationship of delivering open programmes for a wide range and level of staff in management positions. Sadly due to changes in Government policy our relationship came to an end and Business Link could no longer promote management programmes.

In summary, Ability is a very successful and established company which has achieved national recognition for excellence in management development for staff in both the public and private sector. All our programmes are agreed in advance with clients and take into account different learning opportunities and accreditation of prior learning. Assessment is face-to-face and uses a mixture of directed and client sponsored work based assignments. Assessment is benchmarked against national and international standards, and senior management for client organisations are actively encouraged to participate in assessment of management projects which can be implemented within the place of work.
