Manual Handling Operations Regulations
It has long been recognized that manual handling of loads at work is a significant contributor to the number of workplace injuries - statistics suggest about a quarter of all reported accidents are attributed to manual handling.
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations established a clear hierarchy of measures to reduce the risk of injury during manual handling tasks. There are legal responsibilities on organizations and managers to ensure conformity with the regulations.
Aims:
To develop the knowledge needed establish systems that will ensure compliance with the Regulations.
Participants:
Anyone responsible for the authorization of manual handling operations or who is responsible for supervising staff involved in manual handling tasks.
Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Identify the requirements placed on organizations and managers under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations;
- Develop and implement systems which ensure conformity with the Regulations for their own place of work;
- Maintain necessary systems;
- Review the performance of the systems against the requirements to ensure legal compliance.

This course does not teach manual handling skills.
