Appraisal systems are now capable of achieving more for both the organization and individual. But to gain these benefits the system needs to be well accepted by staff and properly operated by managers and supervisors.
The links between the appraisal system and the Investors in People award make an effective appraisal system of critical importance for organizations.
Aims:
To provide managers and supervisors with the skills and knowledge needed to make their appraisal system work effectively.

Anyone responsible for controlling, implementing or evaluating an appraisal system.
Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Explain the different ways in which people learn;
- Identify a variety of development opportunities;
- Devise a realistic development plan with a team member;
- Build appropriate support and review mechanisms into an individual development plan;
- Devise a development plan for a team which encourages involvement while building skills to meet organizational needs;
- Evaluate the contribution made by development activities to the achievement of objectives;
- Develop a human resource plan for their own area of responsibility.

The course is highly participative and will involve group and individual discussions and exercises.
