Introduction:
During the typical day most managers experience a series of personal contacts, many of them brief and fleeting. Their success is likely to be influenced by their ability to deal with these interactions effectively. Handled well the contact is likely to be constructive and positive, helping the manager achieve both personal and organizational goals. However, handled badly the contacts will be counter-productive and tiring leading to increased stress.
Aim:
To provide participants with a wider range of behaviours to employ in their interpersonal contacts at work.
Participants
Managers and senior members of staff who wish to be more decisive and self confident when handling others.
Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Identify an assertive management style;
- Identify a range of behavioural options in interpersonal situations
- Demonstrate assertive behaviours in varying situations;
- Remain assertive when placed in potentially confrontational situations;
- Respond to negative attitudes with constructive behaviours;
- Use a direct and effective manner when presenting their point of view.
Content:
- Difficult interpersonal relationships
- Aggression, submissiveness and assertiveness implications of the various styles
- Assertive rights
- Identifying your own preferred mix of behaviours
- Preparation of case studies, role playing and review
Style:
There will be a combination of input, group discussion and role playing combined with constructive feedback.
Duration:
The course lasts for one day.
