Introduction
It is now recognized that excessive levels of stress can reduce both effectiveness at work and life expectancy. Today, more than ever, managers and staff are exposed to increasing levels of stress.
It is important that staff can recognize the signs of stress in themselves and in those they work with. And recognizing its existence, they need to know techniques that will allow them to cope with stress.
Aim
To provide the skills and knowledge to recognize stress at work and develop coping strategies.
Participants
Managers and staff at all levels in the organization who need to identify and manage stress in their own lives and the work lives of their colleagues.
Objectives
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- identify the body's response to stressors and stressful situations
- recognize the symptoms of stress in themselves and others
- identify their own stress levels
- prepare a plan to manage their own stress
- prepare a plan to reduce stress levels in their own workplace.
Content
- Causes of stress and the body's reactions
- Recognising behavioural, physical and psychological symptoms of stress in self and others.
- Type A behaviour and its implications for health and longevity.
- Factors implicated in stress in individuals.
- Coping behaviours.
- Planning to deal with stress.
Style
The course uses a mix input, group discussion and individual work including the completion of life style questionnaires. Participants who will be expected to take a full part in the course will be taught a number of relaxation exercises for later use.
Duration
The course lasts for one day.
