Aim:
To develop the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to handle grievance and disciplinary procedures
Participants:
Managers and supervisors responsible for maintaining positive working practices and good relationships in the workplace
Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- State the real purpose of discipline at work
- Recognize the reasons for following specific procedures when managing both discipline and grievance issues
- Understand the stages involved in the disciplinary process
- Keep effective records of any disciplinary action
- Plan disciplinary action to achieve a desired outcome
- Involve the Personnel function at the appropriate time
- Describe the role of an employment tribunal
Content:
- The purpose of discipline
- The role of ACAS
- The purpose of procedures and what they cover
- Fair and unfair dismissal
- Understanding and following procedures
- Planning and using appropriate disciplinary action
- The role of the management chain, the Personnel function and ACAS
Style:
The course will involve lectures, discussions and work on case studies
Duration:
The course lasts for one day.

On an in-house course it is possible to work with the organisation's own discipline and grievance procedures
