Introduction:
Organizations are about people working together. Often a team is announced but nothing changes. What a group is called has little influence on the way they work. A team is not just a work group with a fancy name. When people really work as a team they can achieve impressive results - they become far more than just the sum of the parts. But this requires special performance from the team leader. They need to recognize and respond to the needs of the team.
Aim:
To provide managers and supervisors with the skills and knowledge to help form and lead a high performing team at work.
Participants:
New and experienced managers who wish to examine the way they lead and participate in their teams.
Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Identify different approaches to team development;
- Describe the various roles that people take in teams;
- Identify their preferred style of team leadership;
- Examine the way their team currently works and consider the implications for their leadership style;

- Characteristics of an effective team
- Team leadership in action
- Managing the team - your role
- Respecting individuality and avoiding stereotyping
- Approaches to team effectiveness
Style:
The course is highly participative and involves a mix of input, group discussion, individual and team working. Participants will be expected to produce and discuss an action plan designed to help carry learning from the day back to the workplace.

The course lasts for one day
