Introduction

This wide-ranging Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma covers the skills and knowledge needed to care for others in a broad range of health or social care settings.

It is flexible to suit all fields of health and social care. You can choose a pathway that suits your role – for example, working with people with a learning disability, people with dementia or children and young people.

This is the main qualification required by the Care Quality Commission in England and the Care Councils in Wales and Northern Ireland.

Aims

The Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma will provide the skills and knowledge needed to care for others in a broad range of health or social care settings.

Participants

These are the recognised qualifications for care workers and senior care workers in health and social care.

For the Level 2 qualification, you might have no previous experience, or you might be working in care and want recognition for your current skills.

Entry Requirements

Candidates should be working in the care sector e.g. residential, dementia, learning disability, domiciliary or nursing, and have at least 6 months practical experience. Ideally candidates should be working to, or have achieved the induction/foundation framework for care/learning disability.

Objectives

This programme will improve career prospects, efficiency, effectiveness, profit, plan for promotion and plan for succession.

Qualification Structure

To achieve the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England, Learners must achieve a minimum of 46 credits.

To do this they must achieve:

Generic Pathway

  • 24 credits from the mandatory units in Group A
  • a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 7 credits from the optional units in Group B
  • at least 15 credits from the optional units in Group C

Dementia Pathway

  • 24 credits from the mandatory units in Group A
  • a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 7 credits from the optional units in Group B but must complete: DEM 201  Dementia Awareness
  • at least 15 credits from the optional units in Group C but one of the following must be completed: DEM204, DEM209, DEM210 or DEM 211

Adults with Learning Disabilities Pathway

  • 24 credits from the mandatory units in Group A
  • a minimum of 2 credits and a maximum of 7 credits from the optional units in Group B but must complete: LD 201 Understand the context of supporting and individual with learning disabilities
  • at least 15 credits from the optional units in Group C but one of the following must be completed: LD 202, LD 203.

This is a 6 – 12 month training and assessment programme.

Candidates will be in contact with a qualified tutor at least every two weeks for guidance and support.

The tutor will teach best practice, latest Standards and observe candidate’s working practice and activities.

Style

This programme can be tailored to meet the needs of organisations and individuals, by offering a choice of modules relevant to the role of the carer. It has been designed to provide additional knowledge and understanding while also linking with the Diploma in Health and Social Care at Level 2. The application of knowledge gained is embedded during coaching at the candidate’s place of work. Suitably designed assessment may also generate support evidence of competence.

Assessment

The assessment procedure is based upon the individual demonstrating competent working knowledge of each module.

This is achieved through:

  • Written assignments
  • Personal portfolio

Duration

Candidates complete in 6 to a maximum of 12 months depending on the Units selected.

Delivered at employer’s venues to suit candidates’ work patterns.

Interest free option: Deposit of £154 plus 8 monthly instalments of £175
